Always Meet in Public Spaces
Choose busy, well-lit locations with surveillance cameras: police station lobbies, bank entrances, university campus desks, or busy transit stations. Never invite someone to your private home.
Verify Ownership First
Use our built-in Verification Challenge before meeting. Ask specific details only the true owner would know: wallpaper photo, serial initials, distinctive marks, or purchase receipts.
Never Wire Money or Pay Shipping
Beware of scammers demanding prepaid shipping labels, courier fees, or gift cards before returning an item. Legitimate finders on FindBack will complete an in-person or official lost & found handover.
Dual-Confirmation Receipts
Once an item is successfully handed over, both the finder and owner confirm the return on their FindBack app. This updates the report status to RETURNED and records an immutable audit log.
